Tax Freedom Day - 2010 Report

Please note for the 2010 report:

The time series for the National Accounts (i.e. the way the ABS go about assembling their data) was revised in 2009, necessitating a recalculation of the TFD for 2010 and for prior year comparisons, hence the 2008 report is not quite comparable to the 2010 figures. This is not a big deal, but felt we needed to point it out. Here is what the ABS had to say about their updated national accounts...

There are a number of significant changes made between December 2008 and September 2009 release of the Australian National Accounts cat. no. 5206. The September 2009 release is based on:

  1. The new International standards of System of National Accounts (SNA08)
  2. Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual. six edition.
  3. The new industry classification of Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC 2006) and
  4. The new Standard Economic Sector Classification of Australia 2008 (SESCA08).
All of the above change results significant revisions for the entire time series National Accounts figures .

ABS has released a number information papers in the lead up to these revisions. Among the releases, cat. no. 5310.0.55.002 (Information Paper: Implementation of new international standards in ABS National and International Accounts, September 2009) discuses the new methodologies applied and the impact of the above changes. The paper can be find in our website (www.abs.gov.au).
