The volume of trading in this section of the market has been staggering.
For the 31st Jan the daily volume of shares traded was 1.764 billion.
(Last years daily average was about 400 million.) Of the 1.764 billion,
1.357 billion was in the mining sector. Of that, 322 million shares were
traded in one stock, DGM. That's half the share capital of the company
turned over in one day. This has been a consistent pattern since the start
of December last year. Day traders are having an effect. Attention has
turned to the junior end of the mining and resources sector, in addition to
the tech stocks.
